CLASS & SAFETY INFORMATION

What are your guidelines for current Covid-19 Safety?

The CAC of HV will begin to phase in mask-wearing as an option. We will follow updated and supplemental NY State Covid School Guidance (link includes guidance for notification, quarantine and masking). The CAC of HV encourages a “mask positive” environment, as masked and unmasked people work alongside one another.

The CAC of HV maintains a staff vaccination and booster requirement.

*WHEN the studio requests, please see our weekly studio attendance health form here (during NYS Covid health emergencies only).

Will extra measures be taken to ensure studio sanitization?

Disinfecting measures will take place throughout the day and between each session. Hand sanitizer will be available upon entering, instruction and exiting the facility. This protocol includes the disinfection of all common surfaces, seated areas and all digital/photographic equipment.

Do we need photography experience?

Students work in small groups and so a mix of experience becomes a key component of our collaborative learning environment. Our programs are open to all levels and types of photographers - we only ask that you are engaged, passionate and ready to create. Each class is tailored to its particular group, which makes every lesson unique and focused the students’ needs.

What equipment do we need to bring?

On the first day of class, We ask that students supply a labeled USB flash drive of at least a 8GB-16GB (16GB/Intensives) for end semester image storage. Each participant should also have a small 5x8 note pad, folder and pencil. When possible, we encourage students to bring their personal laptop to each class. Please be sure that you feel comfortable with anything sent into the studio, as the student is responsible for any personal technology.

What if we do not own a camera and/or a laptop?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! We supply the cameras and our studio is equipped with a selection of both Apple desktop computers and various laptops. Our equipment will always remain in the studio.

What should we wear and bring to class?

We ask that everyone wear comfortable weather-related clothing, sneakers, and/or a safe flat soled shoe. We will be walking on uneven terrain and any loose footwear (flip-flops or heels etc.) could pose difficulties. A greaseless bug spray will be needed during non-winter months. Please check the weather before each class, and dress appropriately. We take photo walks within the Garner Historic District throughout the entire year.

Please use a labeled plastic zip lock bag for bug spray, sun lotion and any medical necessities (i.e. Epi Pen).

How should we pack meals and/or snacks ?

Each participant should bring their own filled drinking bottle. Individual water bottles are available for $1.

For longer sessions and summer intensives, please provide a second water bottle with a nut-free meal in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. If a snack is preferred, a labeled brown bag and zip locks work well. There will be no sharing of food and/or utensils.

What are the usage terms of the images we take during classes?

The images taken by each individual are for non-commercial use only. Students can use the images for printed portfolios, personal websites and on any personal social media channels. Commercial usage such as print sales, advertising, marketing, merchandise sales etc. is not allowed.

What happens if The CAC of HV must cancel? Are there make-up classes?

We rarely have to cancel classes, but if this were to happen we would notify you as soon as possible. The CAC of HV will reschedule the missed event(s).

We do not offer make-ups or refunds for students that have incurred a missed class. We follow the NRCSD academic calendar. Please see our Policy Guidelines for additional details.

Can I purchase a gift certificate?

We currently offer in-person gift certificates. For updated information, just contact us.

What is the GARNER Arts & Industrial Center?

Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center is home to a thriving community of artists and artisans who create and exhibit their works in this landmark, pre-civil war factory complex.  Painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry makers, potters, wood and metal artisans, composers, writers and set designers have replaced the knitters and weavers that once worked in the aerie lofts of this former textile mill. There is a restaurant and brewery just a few feet away from our studio! Please enjoy learning about the GARNER Historic District.
